Dr James Oliver

Background experience

I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have worked in the NHS for a number of years in a variety of mental health services. I am able to support young people and adults experiencing a range of emotional difficulties including anxiety, OCD, trauma, body-image concerns, low mood, adjustment issues, and low self-esteem. I specialise in working with young people who experience emotional difficulties associated with a health condition, with my NHS role within paediatrics. I am able to draw upon a range of evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and ideas from Narrative Therapy. I am also able to offer a full cognitive assessment if it is felt it may be helpful to understand some of the presenting concerns. This would include a full cognitive report with recommendations.

I also have a special interest in Sport Psychology and the relationship between mental health and performance. I have an MSc within this field. I would welcome any enquires related to supporting an athletes emotional well-being within performance sporting environments.

I am currently able to offer clinic appointments in Sale and Knutsford.
